Chapter 1: The Gates of Stonehelm |
After a brief tutorial stage (it has its own built-in walkthrough, so you won't need us), you'll set out for Stonehelm, a large city, many miles from home. As soon as you get up to the gate, all hell breaks loose.
Escape from the ghouls: Just head out and, with the drawbridge facing you, run off to the right. You'll see a chain to climb. Hop on, climb up and then jump on to the ledge and go inside. Exhale; you've escaped the pesky Cyclops.
Find a way up and over the rampart: Now that you're inside, run off to left, up the stairs, and back the other way. Go up the ramp and past the hole from the lava rock, and open the door. Climb the ladder. Across from you, you'll see a rope dangling outside. Get a running start and then jump to the rope, and then to the rampart.
Pull the lever to keep the ghouls from getting in: As soon as you try to go inside, you'll get this mission. Run back outside and find the little lever by the door. Flip it to save the guard. As soon as you do this another guard will run up with your next mission.
Take control of ballista: Follow the guard downstairs. When he gets to his fallen comrade, pick up the Short Sword and then go over to the giant ballista to get your next sub-mission, shooting the Cyclops. Simple enough: Just line up your shots, pop three rounds in him and enjoy the celebration. Head downstairs, and open the portcullis, and you'll be whisked away to a guard's quarters.
Find the entrance to Menelag's mansion: There's lots of weapons and supplies around here, so stock up. You'll have a nice selection to choose from. Also take this time to maybe level up your character with your newly earned skill points. Once you're outside, head past the first house on your right and follow the path right. You'll pass a redheaded woman, and then come to some steps. You'll see an attractive blonde and some guards. Talk to her, and she'll let you in.

Chapter 5: The Temple of the Spider |
Find the temple entrance: Follow Leanna. Along the way you'll find that you have Orcs to contend with up ahead, and likely a Pao Kai. Up ahead you'll find the place crawling with the ugly orange guys. Looks like you'll have your work cut out for you.
Kill the Orcs guarding the outer temple buildings: Leanna is a pain in the ass in this part. Try to keep her out of the way. You'll be better off. Follow the cliff wall down the left side and up through the damaged corner of the building. This will give you a good angle to take out the chatty Orcs below. Orc archers will have swords, too, so they're a lot tougher to take down than the Black Guard bowmen. Those Orc Cleavers are very nice weapons, but you need to be a powerhouse to use them. Try to slip across to the other side, now, and take out the guys in back. After that, there should only be a couple left, so round them up and take care of them. When you kill them, more will spawn from near the temple entrance. Try to get them with projectiles on the charge.
Back to finding a way in, now. Up the right set of stairs toward the temple is a door. Leanna will complain that it's blocked, and you'll have to climb down into the underground tunnels to find a way to open it. Go down to find yourself in a square room with only one exit. Down the hall is a drop, which you'll have to take. This will lead to a room where you'll be swarmed by some flying octopus-like creatures called Facehuggers. When you've eliminated them go through the passage at the top of the sand hill. It will take you to a room with a Rope Bow and a dead Orc. There's also a chain visible through a hole in the wall. Give this a tug.
Use the Rope Bow to get up out of the tunnels: Go back to the room where you fought the Facehuggers and straight across. Down this hall you'll find a spot where you can look up and see the inside of one of the houses. Shoot the rope bow at the ceiling beams to climb up. This will take you to a secret area with a Poison Bow and some potions in a chest. Now go back to the room with the dead Orc and look up to see your way out. Shoot the Rope Bow at the wooden planks and climb up to meet Leanna.

Escape from the Pao Kai: Never a dull moment. This isn't really too bad. Just follow Leanna. Defend her from the Orcs inside (use the spikes and fire), and you'll have averted this brief crisis.
Kill the remaining Orcs that block your path: Go straight ahead and up the hill until you hit the wall. There's two ways to go. Go left. Leanna is a little gung-ho, so don't try for stealth here. Get their attention before Leanna does, or stay by her side. Hit them with a barrel as they charge and then try to use the spikes, fire, or shelf before they get to Leanna. There should be four of them, and when they're dead, your objective will be done. You'll get a brief mission to follow Leanna to meet up with Duncan, now. You won't need our help for that.
Open the portcullis: Just ahead inside is a room with a closed portcullis blocking your progress. There's a Ring of Regeneration in here, and some arrows and potions, too. Xana makes the solution to this puzzle all too clear; go up to the wall by the fire and shoot the Rope Bow up at the wooden beam. Climb up and look for the lever to the right to open the way.
Find the Crystal Chamber and restore the temple's energy: Just up ahead is a room with a few Orcs mulling about and a rather impressive-looking gate. Try to use the spikes for quick kills. Leanna will come in after it's nice and safe, and move a large obstruction out of the way so you can flip a switch and open the portcullis. You'll come to a room with a rotted corpse on the ground. There's a statue that's been knocked down. Use you Telekinesis to place it on the nearby pedestal to open a secret panel in the ground with a cache of potions and a Superior Naga Silksword.
In the next room there are a couple Goblins that won't give you much trouble. Shoot out the boards supporting the large, broken support column. It will fall and form a bridge. Climb up the broken part of the wall and walk across to find a chest with some potions and arrows. Pull the lever to open the portcullis to proceed on ahead. There's a note here, and an Axe on the ground, which is a pretty crummy weapon by this point in the game.
Down the stairs are some more Goblins. There's a chest with some goodies, most notably a Ring of Might. Equip your Rope Bow and go right. You'll be locked it. Shoot a beam on the ceiling and climb before you get squished. When it's done doing its thing the trap will reset and you can move on ahead.
Go back to see Leanna in the main hall: Turn around and go straight across this time. Flip the switch to get a little shortcut back to the hall where you smashed that column. Keep retracing your steps back to the round room where you left Leanna. She'll be waiting for you right where you left her.
Kill the Pao Kai: After Leanna briefs you, that dragon will bust in and start raising hell again. Trying to fight him is hopeless. Run back through the portcullis where you last came in, wait for the Pao Kai to follow, and drop the gate to run him through. Leanna will use her telekinesis skills to open a passage for you an send you on your merry way.
Explore the tunnel that Leanna has revealed: Drop down the tunnel. One way is a dead end with what looks like some kind of nasty drill bit mounted to a slab. The other way is a tunnel, and that's the way you want to go. Just up ahead, the ground will shake and toss you into the Spider's Lair.
Find a way out of the Spider's Lair: This place is completely covered with web and full of much nastier spiders than the ones you've encountered so far. These guys are big, they'll leap at you, and they're extremely poisonous. We haven't found a particularly easy way to fight them. Freeze is very effective, but it's a costly spell, and they'll still overwhelm you. So just try to take them one or two at a time, hide and heal, and pace yourself and you'll get through. There's a not particularly well hidden secret area down here, too. One of the tunnels will lead to a little stream with some much needed Antidotes and an Orc corpse with a Key. The only other way is a hole in the wall at the end of a tunnel. This is the way out.
Climb out of the Spider's pit: This next room has a chest with some Mana Potions, a small tunnel leading back to the broken path from before, and a large round tower full of spiders. Lure the spiders into the narrow passage so they come in single-file, and take care of them before proceeding to climb. There's a chain you can jump to reach a small cache of potions.
From this ledge, use the Rope Bow to drop a rope to climb to the small wooden ledge. From here, shoot another rope in the wooden beam sticking out just ahead, and another into the support beam of the platform up ahead. Jump from the first rope to the second rope, and then onto the chain, and climb up. Hop off onto the platform, and it will take you right to the door that leads out of this place. If you feel like climbing more there's a secret area up above that you can get to pretty easily with a few more ropes. It's worth your while if you're an archer, too, since there's an Endless Quiver up there. Getting down is tricky, so save.
Find a path to the upper temple: Carefully drop down into the next spider lair. It's a long drop, so land on the ledge halfway down before taking the rest of it. You'll come to a body of water. If you swim down, you'll find a secret area, but all it has is some juice. The path ahead is pretty linear. You'll go outside and get a nice look at a gorge, and then back inside. Shortly after this part there's an opening to see into the gorge again. If you look up you'll see a wooden protrusion. A well-placed rope here will get you a few potions. Shortly after this you'll find your way out of the cavern and into a sewer.
Past here is a small passage leading to a big plunge into a pool of water. Dive in and look for the switch underwater to raise the water level. When the water is done flooding in, climb out and crawl through the small window. You'll see a couple Goblins. There are tons of these guys, so whatever your first move, realize you're going to have to hack and slash through most of them. To the one side of this corridor, you'll see a dead end a hill of sand. If you go into the big room on the opposite end, you'll get an optional side quest. If you don't want to do this, just go up the stairs on the right side of the corridor before this big room instead.
(Optional) Kill the Cyclops: The Cyclops is big and mean, but he's really dumb. He won't be able to leave the confines of this room, but you can. Go out and stand on the little raised are in the middle of the steps. Tease him and bait him into doing his two-fisted attack. Step back so he doesn't hit you, and then hit his head. When he starts to get weak, he'll begin lowering his head and panting. When he does this attack his weak point (the eye) for massive damage. Use your stab move (hold attack while moving backwards) to gouge him. You might need to go back into the room to get a good shot at his eye. You'll be rewarded with a couple extra skill points for taking care of this guy.
Now, head upstairs (the stairs are marked with a small sign). There's a glowing red pool in one of the rooms here, which will heal you up. Before you cross the walkway go down the hall and to the left. There is a booby trapped room with a chest. Through a hole in the wall is a secret are with a bunch of good scrolls and the Staff of the Firelord. Now, go across the walkway. Just over here there's a fallen statue. Take it to the empty pedestal and put it in place to reveal a cache of potions. There's a blue pool on this side that will restore your Mana. Off to the end of this hall you'll see a ladder leading to a small opening. Just down from here will be your objective's end.
Find the Crystal Chamber and restore the temple's energy (continued): You'll get a nice vista up ahead. There are Orcs up here. Try to kick them down the stairs and then knock that shelf with those barrels down to finish them off. We found the Staff of the Firelord to be perfect here, letting flaming barrels do the dirty work. Go up the stairs and inside, and use the battering ram to clear the way. The chamber inside is lined with potions and the sarcophagus contains a pair of Lightning Daggers.
Now, go back outside and continue your climb up the mountainside. There are more Orcs up here. A swift kick off the ledge will take care of them. You'll soon come to an entrance in the cliff wall that will lead to a staircase winding around a square, stone chamber. At the top of these stairs is a Poison Bow if you need one. The doorway will take you back outside and across a rope bridge to a room with some stairs, and a couple more Orcs. In the water in this room there's a Souldrinker. Now, climb the excessively long set of stairs. At the top, you'll have a chance to use your Rope Bow to get to a Magic Mushroom.
In the next room you'll have an opportune occasion to use stealth, but handle it however you like. Don't forget the Ring of Phoenix if you don't have one. Around the back of this building is a ladder to take you upstairs, but all that's up there is a lousy Wizard Robe. Down the path you'll find a blocked doorway, and a new objective.
Find a path to reach the other side of the barricaded door: Go back up the ladder, but instead of going all the way up, go out the second floor door, and follow the small path outside. You'll walk across the roof of the next building and into a cave. Equip your dark vision. This place is crawling with spiders. Use a staff weapon to knock them back and keep them at bay. Follow the cave around and back outside. There's a patched hole in the roof you're standing on. Give it a whack to drop down inside. This building is ready to collapse so get outside quick.
Follow the wooden walkway into another cave. This will lead directly into another building. Continue along the walkway to reach the building you've been trying to get into. There are a few bodies and some reading material in here, and a cavernous passage to proceed down. Follow it along and when it forks, go left for some blacksmithing (you can make an Earthfire Sword with that Flamegold we found on the boat), or right to continue on your adventure.
Fix the Elevator: This is as simple as pulling the lever. Now, go back out to the house, kick down the barricaded door and go back the way you came, down the long stairs, across the rope bridge, down the path, back to that room with the battering ram puzzle. Quite the backtrack. Stand on the elevator platform and flip the switch to go up.
Return the Shantiri Crystal to its place: Watch out for spiders in this room. To the right is a room with a crate with a bunch of handy scrolls inside. The other way leads to the Crystal's chamber. You'll go down a large chamber full of columns and to a room with a closed portcullis. Flip the switch and continue. You'll have reached the chamber at last. Pull the lever to extend the walkway and put the crystal in its rightful place.
Defeat Aratrok: Boss time. The Orc leader wants to clash blades, and who are we to refuse? Have plenty of healing stuff equipped and your best sword and shield. This one is tough. If you use magic the other Orcs will join in, but it might be worth it, if you lean toward spell casting or have a good magic weapon. When you clear them out get the Spider Key off his belt and open the door in the same room.
Go back to see Leanna in the main hall: Get in the elevator up ahead, and flip the switch. This will take you directly down to a room just off from the main hall. Go right and you'll find Leanna waiting. She'll try to open the door, but watch out for the ghouls that come running in. She'll get it open just enough for you to slide through, before she'll be interrupted. Run away to end this ridiculously long chapter.
